A Tale of Grit & Growth
Located in Palkot Block of Gumla district, MVM Baghima Palkot Farmer Producer Company Limited was established in September 2022 under the 10K FPO Programme. Working in a predominantly tribal region, the FPO was created to improve farmer incomes through collectivisation, value addition, and market access.
The FPO identified millet (Ragi/Madua) as a key opportunity for economic transformation. With support from FDRVC, JSLPS, and district administration, a millet processing unit was established along with the Johar Millet Café. Women farmers now process raw millet into products such as ragi flour, laddoos, cookies, mixtures, samosas, and other nutritious foods.
Today, the enterprise supports hundreds of farmers, processes nearly 3 MT of millet per day, and generates significant revenue through value-added products. The success of the initiative earned national recognition and contributed to Gumla district receiving the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Administration.
What started as a small farmer collective has evolved into a model rural enterprise demonstrating how value addition, women leadership, and market linkages can transform livelihoods.
