Connecting Remote Farmers to Better Markets

In the remote and mountainous districts of Arunachal Pradesh, orange growers traditionally depended on local traders who offered low prices due to poor connectivity and limited market access.

Retusa Women Farmer Producer Company Limited changed this situation by creating direct market linkages with buyers in larger markets such as Siliguri. Through collective procurement, aggregation, and coordinated transportation, the FPO enabled farmers to access better prices for their produce.

One member farmer, Jinsanliang Tamai from Anjaw district, reported earning 30–40% higher income after selling oranges through the FPO. Despite difficult terrain, weak communication networks, and transportation challenges, the FPO successfully aggregated nearly 70,000 oranges and connected farmers to remunerative markets.

Today, Retusa WFPCL stands as a strong example of how collective action can overcome geographical barriers and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women farmers in remote regions.
